One family, four generations, and the same practice in the Capital Region since 1937.
1937 — First Generation
Our story begins in 1937 with Edward Bianchi, a first-generation Italian immigrant who built his early career as an international auditor for General Electric. Recognizing a need in his community, Ed began preparing tax returns from his home for Italian-speaking families in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood of Schenectady. What started as a service to neighbors grew into a lifelong calling.
1950s — Second Generation
In the mid-1950s, Ed's son-in-law, John "Jack" McDonald, joined the practice, and together they opened the first official Bianchi & McDonald office on Francis Avenue in Schenectady. As the practice grew, they relocated in 1971 to a new office — an addition built off Ed's home — on Amsterdam Avenue in Rotterdam. Ed's daughter Arleen, who was also Jack's wife, became the heart of the front office, warmly welcoming clients by phone and in person for decades.
1980s — Third Generation
The third generation arrived in the early 1980s, when Jack and Arleen's children, Lori and Stephen, joined the business. The family purchased a building on Carman Road in Rotterdam in 1986 — where we remain today. Lori and Stephen carried on their parents' legacy of trusted, personal service — keeping the firm, and its values, squarely in the family.
Between them, our four partners have guided thousands of Capital Region clients through tax season — and stayed available long after April.
Lori, our senior partner, brings nearly 50 years of hands-on experience to the practice — roots that trace back to working in the family office in high school. She holds a BBA in Accounting from Siena College and an IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer designation. Outside the office, Lori and her husband Chip enjoy golfing and travel to sunny beachy destinations.

A third-generation partner, Stephen joined the firm shortly after earning his BBA in Accounting from Siena College in 1985. He holds an IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer designation and brings four decades of hands-on experience to every return he prepares. Outside the office, he enjoys landscaping, golfing, and rooting for the Minnesota Vikings.
A fourth-generation partner, Shauna holds a Bachelor's in Accounting and a Master's in Taxation from SUNY Albany and is a Certified Public Accountant. Before returning to carry on the family legacy, she gained valuable experience at Goldman Sachs Ayco. Outside the office, she enjoys a good crime drama and time with her husband and son.

Ethan joined Bianchi & McDonald as a fourth-generation member of the family, bringing a fresh perspective rooted in a lifelong connection to the firm. He holds a degree in Business Economics from SUNY Oneonta and is currently completing the IRS Enrolled Agent program. Outside the office, Ethan enjoys reading, road cycling, and traveling the world with his wife.
